WEB PIN vs HUB (LAN) 2025

WEB PIN or LAN (HUB) mode

A reliable connection between the host laptop and all of the player-apps is key when hosting SpeedQuizzing. There are two ways this can be achieved. Please read the information below.

WEB PIN Mode (Internet)

WEB PIN Mode is the easiest way to start hosting SpeedQuizzing since it doesn’t require the purchase of any additional hardware. This means you can download the SQPRO desktop application and be trying out SpeedQuizzing within minutes.

However, for WEB PIN Mode to work reliably, the host laptop needs a solid Internet connection and players‘ phones also require Internet, either via WiFi or using their Mobile data.

So although WEB mode is convenient and great for getting started hosting SpeedQuizzing, it is not guaranteed to work satisfactorily in all pubs and bars.

HUB Mode (LAN connection.)

Because not all venues have good Internet coverage, we recommend purchasing one of our pre-configured WiFi Hubs for professional use in pubs and bars etc for optimum stability.

These devices don’t connect to the Internet at all, so will allow you to host SpeedQuizzing literally anywhere.

PIN vs Pinless

Another thing to note is that WEB mode requires players to input a 6 digit PIN to connect, whereas HUB mode doesn’t.

Another thing that could cause a slight issue when hosting in a pub using a WEB PIN, is that players could essentially find out the PIN and log into your quiz from anywhere. Whereas when using a LAN, you can be assured that the players are all in the same building as the host.
