Maximum Connections

What is the maximum number of devices that can connect to SpeedQuizzing?

SpeedQuizzing was primarily designed to be played in pubs and bars with people playing in teams, sharing a device rather than playing individually. So rarely would you have needed to connect over 30 or 40 devices.

Although we still maintain that hosting to fewer devices is preferable for optimum reliability, (encouraging team-play rather than playing individually), we accept that there may be times where you might want to attempt to exceed double figures.

So we have provided a table below, which shows not only the theoretical number of devices that should be able to connect according to claims from the hardware manufacturers, but also the highest numbers we have achieved ourselves when hosting with the various different connection methods.

Unfortunately these figures can only be used as guidelines because you have to take into account many factors such as different shapes and sizes of rooms, different WiFi environments and how densely packed a room is etc.

WEB PIN method

The WEB PIN method is a brand new way of hosting SpeedQuizzing, but this is potentially even more unpredictable, since you are totally at the mercy of the quality of the Internet available to yourself and the players. Yes, you could theoretically host to 500+ devices in somewhere with amazing Internet coverage throughout, but in reality, it could fail to work at all if Internet coverage is poor.

Gameplay

In addition to technical reasons regarding WiFi and Internet, SpeedQuizzing gameplay can undoubtedly suffer from having too many teams / players.

For example in a pub of 20 teams playing Keypad games, players have a 1 in 20 chance of answering a question fastest and hearing their buzzer sound. But with 150 devices, this drops to a 1 in 150 chance. This is even worse for Buzzin games which become completely unmanageable past a certain point.

So in short, we make no promises, but we hope this helps and we’d love to hear how you get on with more ambitious SpeedQuizzing events where you aim to exceed the numbers that we’ve talked about here.
