Music Bingo

SQ Music Bingo

SQ Music Bingo innovates rather than replicates.

Although we call it Music Bingo, SQ Music Bingo is unlike any other available Music Bingo product.

Rather than copy other brands, we’ve gone back and reimagined a game that looks and sounds like Music Bingo, but plays like a new game in it’s own right.
Unlike other products, SQ Music Bingo appeals to both Bingo singalong fans and music quiz fans in equal measures.
It may not tick all the boxes as a replacement for other Music Bingo brands, but in terms of being an engaging game in it’s own right, we suspect it will raise the bar considerably.

Is SQ Music Bingo available to use?

Since it is a work-in-progress and not quite ready for public release, SQ Music Bingo is currently a hidden feature in the SpeedQuizzing quiz hosting system.
However anyone who is already familiar with hosting quizzes using the SpeedQuizzing platform can enable it by following the instructions on this page.
There are no other official instructions or tutorials other than this page and we don’t yet officially offer technical support. There is however a Facebook group where (if you catch them on a good day), other users may help out with tips and advice if you ask kindly. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1607380270260382

How much does it cost to use?

As with hosting quizzes using the SpeedQuizzing platform, you can host SQ Music Bingo for free with up to four player devices connected. This is known as Demo Mode. Just download the SpeedQuizzing software and away you go.

However, to activate the system to allow you to connect more than four (teams / players), you must purchase and use SpeedQuizzing Credits.

An SQ Music Bingo activation will cost 1 Credit to activate for the day.

Do this by entering one of these two codes in the Promo Code field when booking your SpeedQuizzing Activation.

  • quizandmb = 4 credits and will include SQ Music Bingo with a Quiz Activation.
  • mbonly = 1 credit and will allow you to host Music Bingo as a stand alone game without a quiz activation.

What music media is SQ Music Bingo compatible with?

To host SQ Music Bingo you will need to own at least 24 audio files in mp3, m4a, wav or flac formats.

Note: SQ Music Bingo DOES NOT sync up with Spotify playlists or any other streaming service.

Step by step tutorial.

Note: In this tutorial we assume that you already know how to connect player devices to the SpeedQuizzing Pro software.

1. Reveal the hidden SQ Music Bingo button in the SpeedQuizzing software.

  • Open the latest version of the SpeedQuizzing software on your Windows or Mac computer.
  • Hold down the normal blue Speed Bingo button until the orange Music Bingo button appears.

2. Assign and edit your audio files.

Clicking the orange Music Bingo button for the first time will create a new Music Bingo folder in your SpeedQuizzing Documents folder.

You can access the SpeedQuizzing documents folder by pressing this icon on the right hand side of the SpeedQuizzing software.

In here you need to paste a minimum of 24 x mp3m4a / wav / flac / audio files, with the file names formatted like this. Artist-Title.

After doing this, and hitting the Preview Tab in the SpeedQuizzing software, you should now see your list of songs. Here you can select which ones you’d like to include in the game by ticking the box on the left hand side. You must select a minimum of 24.

Clicking a song title will open a wave view where you can edit each song’s start point. You can also edit the volume to compensate for songs with different sound levels.

Once your clips are to your liking, tap the Setup button.

3. The Setup page

Points vs Prize.

If you’re hosting SQ Music Bingo as part of a SpeedQuizzing quiz night, you may want to award quiz points for completing either a line or two lines or a full house. Otherwise it’s more likely that you’ll offer a prize or prizes.

To get started we’ll assume you are setting it to Prize mode rather than points, then further down this page we’ll also look at how the Points mode works.

The Reaction Timer

The Reaction Timer allows Music Quiz fans to demonstrate their skill at identifying the songs accurately and speedily. It includes a Reaction Table where players can compare their speed throughout the game with that of other players.

Lines

Choose whether you are hosting for 1 line across, 2 lines across or a Full House.

Info

Choose whether to display the Artist, the Song title or both, on players Music Bingo cards.

4. Start Round.

Hit the blue Start Round button and you will be presented with this Start Round dialogue.

Select Event

The Select Event feature is an advanced feature which will be explained further down this page.

Introductory Mode

Introductory Mode is an important feature which is designed to introduce new players to the game in a way that they’ll get to understand over the space of the first few songs, rather than attempting to explain absolutely everything before the game commences.

More will be explained about this later, but for now always click YES.

5. Gameplay

Hosting your first game with Introductory mode turned on.

You’re now ready to host a game in Prize mode with Introductory mode enabled.

  • Connect some player devices. Their screens should look like this.

Before playing the first song, be sure to read these instructions clearly to players.

  • Press the blue Play Audio button.
  • Hopefully everyone will have a guess at a song, since they know the first one is definitely on their card.
  • After a minimum of 12 seconds you can stop the audio from playing.
  • Before pressing Reveal Song be sure to read these instructions clearly to players.

  • Before playing the next song be sure to read these instructions clearly to players.

  • Play the next song.
  • Stop playing the song.
  • Announce the name of the answer at the same time as hitting the Reveal Song button.
  • Players will now see the Reaction table on their screen for the first time.

  • Before playing the next song be sure to read these instructions clearly to players.

  • Continue playing and revealing songs. At some point this instruction will appear on your screen to read out to players.

  • Continue playing and revealing songs until there is a Bingo call.

  • If it’s a single call you will be prompted to announce the winner.

  • If there are multiple calls you will first be prompted to announce the names of each of the callers individually, and then you’ll be prompted to announce which of those callers is higher on the Reaction Table and is therefore the winner of the prize.
  • In some situations you may decide to also offer a prize for whoever finishes at the top of the Reaction table.

Before continuing onto 2 lines or a Full House you will be given the option to reset the Reaction Table scores to zero, returning it back to a level playing field for everyone. In most situations we’d recommend you do this, unless you are offering a bonus prize for the top of the Reaction Table, in which case you might want to only give one prize away right at the end of the game.

6. Hosting with Introductory mode turned off.

The only time you’d likely want to press NO when prompted about Introductory mode, is if you’re hosting a second time in the same night. For instance if you’re hosting a full Music Bingo evening.

With Introductory Mode off, the game is the same as with it on, apart from..

  1. Everyone isn’t guaranteed to have the first song on their card.
  2. The Pass button will be available right from the beginning.
  3. The five Introductory dialogues won’t show in between the clips.

7. Points Mode

Points mode works similar to Prize mode with the differences being…

  • Bingo callers win points to have added to the main Quiz scoreboard rather than a prize. (Let’s say for this example, we set the points to 30).
  • On multiple Bingo calls, rather than using the Reaction Table to determine the winner, all callers will get 30 points each.
  • The fourth introductory explanation will read like this…

  • After Bingo has been called, the Reaction Table will be viewed with all players receiving additional points on a sliding scale from 30 downwards to be added to the main Quiz scoreboard.

  • In Points mode (as pictured here), the available sliding scale can be viewed on the Reaction Table to the left of the player names.

Event logging.

  • By selecting an event at the beginning of a game, songs will be marked off against that event when the audio is played at that particular event.
  • NOTE: This won’t log the songs that were merely displayed on players cards, they will actually have to play to be logged. Then next time when you’re setting up a list of songs at the same venue in the future, you can reference what has been played there before.

Important: Be very careful that if you are running a practise game at home prior to an event, that you DON’T have an event selected, since this will permanently mark those songs off against that event.

Video formats.

YES you can now include video files in the webm and mp4 formats.

Note: These will only show on the optional Livescreen and not on player device screens.
