Optimising your Buffalo router

This page is now OBSOLETE unless you are still using a version of the SpeedQuizzing host Software which is older than V2.7.0

If you are using V2.7.0 or later you should ignore this page as you will never need to use this wizard to optimise your SpeedQuizzing router again.

Legacy info for users of 2.6.7 and older of the SpeedQuizzing host.

Power on your WZR-HP-G450H router and connect an Ethernet cable to one of the four Ethernet sockets on the router and your computer’s Ethernet socket.

Open the SpeedQuizzing host software on your computer and make sure it is at least V2.15.

Click the Orange “Router Icon”.

Click “Optimise my SpeedQuizzing recommended router”

Read the instructions and click “start now”

Step 1 of the Wizard sets your router’s admin name and password. Not to be confused with the WiFi Password or WEP key which is used to join a network.

Be sure to remember what you input as one day you will need it.

Read and understand the instructions before clicking the blue “Open utility…” link

This will open a web page containing the Buffalo router settings ready to be set.

name and password and hitting Change password, return to the SpeedQuizzing software and hit “next step”.

Step 2 of the Wizard sets your router’s Wireless Network (SSID) name. This is the name of the WiFi network which SpeedQuizzing handsets will connect to.

Read and understand the instructions before clicking the blue “Open utility…” link

This will open a web page containing the Buffalo router settings ready to be set.

You may need to re-input your admin name and password at this point.

After renaming the Network Quiz and hitting Apply Settings, return to the  SpeedQuizzing software and hit “next step”.

Step 3 of the Wizard disables your WiFi Password allowing handsets to join the quiz more easily.

This will open a web page containing the Buffalo router settings ready to be set.

After disabling Security mode and hitting Apply Settings, return to the SpeedQuizzing software and hit “next step”.

Step 4 of the Wizard assigns your computer specifically to the router which means whenever the two are linked via Ethernet SpeedQuizzing will function in Green mode.


Read and understand the instructions, then click “Copy to Clipboard” before clicking the blue “Open utility…”link

After pasting in the copied text and hitting Run Commands, return to the SpeedQuizzing software and wait 30 seconds for this screen.

You have now Optimised your SpeedQuizzing Router.

When using a different computer with your optimised router you will need to repeat Step 4 of the optimisation process to enable it to run in Green mode.

Tip. You can always open your Router’s settings by holding down the Orange or Green router icon within the host software for one second. This should work on all routers with the exception of Apple Airports.
